Kitchen Tools are Not for Play Time

The kid gang is having a Christmas Vacation Play Fest, and Amaya is getting schooled about group dynamics.

171210005We’re on timeout #4 today and she’s learned that you don’t one up cardboard swords with your kitchen knife.

She learned that being cool and the good of the group can be in opposition.

She learned a little embarrassment is no reason to keep you away from the party.

I learned that once, from my mom. I was too embarrassed to go over to play with some friends because they didn’t actually invite me. She wrote down the pros and cons for me (I think I was 7).

pro

My mom is pretty smart.

I wonder which lessons Amaya will remember when she’s 30. I suspect she’ll be using her kitchen knife to impress people still. In more appropriate ways.

What social lessons did you learn when you were 4?

Oh my! I can relate to this. My boys love every one of my (key work being MY) kitchen gadgets as all kinds of fun, imaginitive things. The only problem is when I can acatually find what I'm looking for before I've burned dinner, it's bent, broken or has dried playdough all over it! ;)

Ah. Dried playdough on my rolling pin is soooo annoying.

The social lesson I learned when I was 4: when you're singing with a group, don't try to sing louder than everyone else. :-)

Maryea: I still remember that one, too. This is especially important when your voice cracks occasionally.
Jackie: Ha! You're too cute.
Salty: I haven't slaved yet. This is probably indicative of how bad my muffcakes will be. (And even THAT sounded bad.)
Diana: Thank you! Merry Christmas to you, too.
