Well I just baked this and it looks great and smells great but it is raw in the enter...I think a standard round cake pan, you may want to bake this in two round pans to cook thoroughly.
I might let you how it turned out after returning it to the oven!

This cake was a disaster!! I made it exactly like the recipe said.. My cake wasn't done in the center after 40 min..and I let it cool for an hour and it had a horrible taste..like too much baking soda and powder--bad aftertaste!! I scooped out the middle and was going to frost it..but didn't want to waste anymore ingredients..This whole thing is going in the garbage..

i really love that book! i loved it as a child and just bought a copy of it and was reminded of how amazing the illustrations are. i am so glad enzo likes it. my neighbor made a cake similar to this the other day and i could not stop eating it!
